St. Mary’s Schools recently received a $400 grant from Remsen’s local telephone service, WesTel, and Aureon, an Iowa-based telecommunications and consulting service. The grant was used for paint in the classrooms this past summer.

Any classroom that had not been painted recently, was given a fresh coat of paint. Teachers chose from four different options proposed by the marketing committee, using a total of 49 gallons of paint, said RSM Development Director Norine Harvey. All together, 14 classrooms in the middle/high school building and 6 classrooms in the elementary building were painted.

Connie Galles painted most of the middle/high school building classrooms, with some teachers and volunteers helping. Mr. Hughes recruited a group of his friends from the Creighton Magis program to help him paint his classroom. Teacher Janell Wimmer’s husband Alex and band teacher Steph Niewohner painted at the elementary building.

Open house visitors got the first look at the beautiful, newly painted classrooms. If you were not able to attend the open house, you are still welcome to come and see the updated look.
